Walking trails in Trek!Peru |
Peru is a wonderful country for walking. Trekking is much less organised than it is in, for example, Nepal, and so one needs to be well-informed in order to get the best from what is available. We approach this issue from two directions. First, we offer detailed support in how to prepare, what you should take with you and how you should engage with local guides and trekking companies, where these exist. We sugest various forms of 'hybrid' trekking, in which walking is one of a range of ways for getting about. Second, we offer detailed trekking routes in a number of important centres: Huaraz and Huayllas; Cusco and the Cordillera Vilcanota, near Arequipa and the Colca and Cotahuasi cañónes. All of these have maps and, in the case of Huaraz, an interactive map whereby you click on a trail and we give you the information about it. Below, we show a snip taken from one of these guides. |
We also offer detailed support on a number of other sporting activities, such as surfing, kayaking and scuba. We discuss, with rather less depth, such specialist subjects as mountain climbing, cycling and the like, taking in to bull fighting, caving and caballo de paso, the extraordinary 'pacing horses' of Peru.
